Is the Peppergun Available for Purchase?

The Peppergun is a discontinued model, and no longer available. It was our first product, sold since the summer of 1986. It was the first  grinder that works really well using just one hand. We no longer make or sell the Peppergun or Saltgun or have replacement parts but we continue to make great grinders, none which are one-handed.

If you're looking to purchase a pepper or salt grinder you might consider:

Keytop Pepper or Salt Mill. Same height and grinding mechanism as the Peppergun. To operate turn the diamond shaped top while holding the body. It has the same sized grinding mechanism as the Peppergun. Cick here to see the Keytop mills.

Magnum Pepper or Salt Mill. Same height as the Peppergun but with a bigger grinding mechanism. The bigger the grinding mechanism, the more pepper will be produced per turn.  To operate turn the top of the mill while holding the body. This is the only grinder that comes with a tray to catch pepper or salt dust. Click here here to see the Magnum mills.

Finback Pepper or Salt Mill. The Finback grinders have the same large grinding mechanims as the Magnum so they'll grind more pepper per turn than the Keytop mills. The top of the grinder resembles a whale's tail. It does not come with a tray. Click here to see the Finback mills. This is the only grinder that has an available gift set. Click here to see the Finback, click here to see the Finback gift set.

Click here to see the different sizes of the grinding mechanisms. The larger the mechanism the more ground pepper will be grabbed and ground, resulting in more ground pepper per turn.

How do I fill the grinder?

The circular depression on the side of of the grinder is acutally a hole in a band of plastic that encircles the grinder. Slide the band sideways and it will reveal the loading hole. Click here to see an  illustration.

Which grinder do you recommend?

The Magnum Magnum Plus and Finback grindersdeliver the most pepper per revolution. The reason being that these grinders have a very large grinding mechanism, 1 1/2 inches in diameter, which translates to much more pepper being grabbed and ground per turn than your average mill. Most people who really love pepper order these, and are happy with them.

For kitchen and cooking, the Magnum Plus is the handiest because of the extra length. It make a difference if you are using the tool a lot.

For the table, our new favorite is the Finback. It looks really good, feels great in the hand, and grinds like mad.

If you don't use a lot of pepper, or you need really fine ground pepper, take a look at the  Keytop. It has a smaller grinding mechanism than the Magnum/Magnum Plus/Finback. It will grind finer but with a little less output.

I'm ordering a gift to be sent directly to the recipient. Can you include a gift card or message?

Yes, we can include a card. Please use the comment box at check out to write your message. We will include a gift receipt (no price on receipt) and a gift card.

What salt is recommended for the salt grinders?

We only recommend using coarse sea salt. Grey, Celtic, Pink, Himalayan, or any moist salt  will not work in our mills as they have a high moisture content and will clog the teeth of the salt grinder. Once damp salt crystals gum up the teeth of the grinder, it causes the mill to stop grabbing and grinding salt, resulting in little or no salt being ground.  Our mills are designed to grind dry, brittle material. We sell and only recommend using coarse sea salt crystals, which are about the size of a peppercorn and are fully dried.

Where can I purchase your products?

We are mainly direct, via toll free 800 634-8881 or 508 228-6233, or Internet

Where are your products made?

The steel grinding mechanism used in our peppermills is imported from Italy, other parts are made in the USA and Forno/Canaves in Italy. All the different parts are shipped to Nantucket, where we make the grinders, pack the spices, and process and ship the orders.

We designed all our products, and have patents on most of them. We have been at it since 1986, when the first models of the Peppergun were sold.

What’s the difference between the Magnum Plus and the Magnum?

The Magnum Plus, at 9 inches, is a taller version of the Magnum, which is 6 inches tall. They both have the same large grinding mechanism. The Magnum Plus, because of its extra length, gives better leverage and is more useful as a kitchen tool. The Magnum comes with a serving tray to catch pepper dust. A serving tray is not available with the Magnum Plus.

Do your grinders allow for a wide range of grinds?

Yes. You can adjust the grinding coarseness on all our mills. There is a thumbscrew on the bottom of all our mills except the Minimill. Turn the thumbscrew clockwise for a finer grind, counter clockwise for a coarser grind. The Minimill’s thumbscrew is found on the top of the mill.

The Magnum , Magnum Plus and FinBack will grind coarser than the other models, but will not grind quite as fine. If you like really fine pepper, try the KeyTop, Peppergun, or PepperStick.

How do I clean my mill?

Use Windex or Fantastic and a paper towel to clean the exterior. It will stay looking new for years with nothing but regular care to keep the grease and oil off.

Do not put the grinders in the dishwasher. There is no need to clean the inside of the grinders.

Do your grinders come filled with pepper or salt?

No. We sell whole peppercorns and coarse sea salt. The spices are packed in containers that make our grinders very easy to fill.

Can I put salt in my pepper mill?

No, salt will corrode the steel. We sell salt versions of the Magnum, Keytop and Peppergun. They have ceramic grinding mechanisms and are available in white.

Do you make wooden pepper mills?

No, all our mills are made from ABS plastic.

Is a catalogue available?
